What is elephant?

Elephant is a national project that provides art workshops and exhibition tours for visually impaired and blind people. Elephant began in 2004 and has received two Arts Council England Awards.

How does it work?

Each workshop is planned in collaboration with you, the workshop participant, through information you have given us as to your preferred workshop activity, specifying idea’s and techniques you may wish to explore for the first time.

Elephant then combines this with it’s own research into experiencing and creating contemporary art, from a multi sensory perspective, to initiate and carry out a workshop for your group. This could include anything from performance, poetry and sculpture to drawing sound. See workshops for more information.

Elephant frequently collaborates with practising artists from a range of arts disciplines, in order to provide tailor made workshops that offer a broad selection of activities. Those artists include sound artists, storytellers, writers, performance artists and visual artists.
Elephant places great importance on developing partnerships with contemporary galleries, organisations and individuals to increase opportunities for visually impaired and blind people to engage with contemporary art.
